Opoid subsitution treatment is an addiction treatment programme where patients struggling with opiate addiction are supplied with a daily dose of oral methadone. Methadone is a long acting opoid that will take away the need to take illicit opoids such as heroin and morphine.

The main aim of opoid substitution is to allow patients suffering from opoid addiction to continue to live normal lives by providing a safe and fully funded replacement for illicit opoids.
